BusinessGST Council to Consider Arrest Powers, ITC Protection Reforms
The GST Council will meet on October 7 to discuss major reforms under the GST 2.0 agenda. Proposed changes include removing GST officers' power to arrest without judicial approval, raising prosecution thresholds from Rs 1 crore to Rs 5 crore, protecting genuine buyers' input tax credit (ITC), and simplifying registration and return filing. The Council will also review IGST exemption withdrawal on gold, silver, and platinum imports by certain banks and agencies.
