Grand Canyon Trout Reduction Boosts Native Fish by 400%
In 2006, the Grand Canyon launched the Bright Angel Creek Trout Reduction Project to combat invasive brown trout threatening native fish, including the endangered humpback chub. This effort successfully removed non-native trout, resulting in a more than 400% increase in native fish populations, restoring the creek's ecological balance.
