The government will provide cheap onions to the public only until Diwali, after which sales will stop. Currently, Nafed and NCCF sell onions at 35 rupees per kg in over 100 cities, but retail prices remain high at an average of 51.71 rupees per kg as of October 10. New onion arrivals from Karnataka, Rajasthan, and Andhra Pradesh have started, prompting the decision to end subsidized sales post-Diwali. So far, 23,000 tons have been sold from the buffer stock to control prices.
