BusinessGovernment May Postpone UPI MDR Implementation from October to January
The Indian government is considering postponing the implementation date of the Merchant Discount Rate (MDR) on Unified Payments Interface (UPI) transactions from October 15 to January 1. No final decision has been made yet. The MDR is a fee charged to merchants for digital payment processing. Additionally, the GST Council is reviewing a proposal to reduce GST on UPI MDR from 18% to 5%, addressing concerns raised by several states.
