Nidhi Khare, Consumer Affairs Secretary, stated the government currently has no plans to reduce import duties on pulses. Despite rising retail prices and uneven monsoon rainfall affecting domestic production, the government relies on the kharif crop and buffer stocks to manage prices. India maintains import duties of 10% on lentils and chickpeas, 30% on yellow peas, with some pulses allowed duty-free until March 2027.
