BusinessGovernment Cuts Sugar Dealers' Stock Holding to 15 Days, Caps at 1,000 Quintals
The Indian government has revised sugar stock-holding rules, reducing the holding period for dealers to 15 days and capping stock at 1,000 quintals nationwide to prevent hoarding and ensure smooth festive season supplies. The rules, effective from October 15 to November 30, 2026, halve the previous 30-day limit and reduce the stock cap from 4,000 quintals. Kolkata and Assam have a higher limit of 2,000 quintals.
