The Indian government has capped ethanol production from surplus Food Corporation of India (FCI) rice at 3.24 billion litres for the first three quarters of 2026-27 and limited ethanol from damaged foodgrains to 1.6 billion litres annually. These restrictions follow curbs on sugarcane-based feedstocks and are expected to increase maize demand, intensifying competition with poultry, dairy, and starch industries for maize supply.
