BusinessGold, Silver Imports to Attract 3% IGST from April 2026
Starting April 1, 2026, gold, silver, and platinum imports through banks and government-recognised nominated agencies will be subject to a 3% Integrated Goods and Services Tax (IGST). Revenue Secretary Arvind Srivastava announced that previous tax exemptions for certain banks and agencies will end by March 31, 2026. This change aims to create a uniform tax regime on precious metal imports, which are significant for India's foreign exchange and domestic jewellery demand.
