Gold, Silver Imports by Banks to Attract 3% IGST from April 2026
From April 1, 2026, gold, silver, and platinum imports by banks and nominated agencies in India will attract a 3% Integrated Goods and Services Tax (IGST). Previously exempt, this change follows the government's decision not to extend the IGST exemption list beyond March 31, 2026, aiming to equalize taxes on precious metal imports and address concerns over foreign exchange outflow. Revenue Secretary Arvind Shrivastava announced this on October 8, 2026.
