Goa to Challenge High Court Stay on ST Seat Reservation in Supreme Court

The Goa government plans to approach the Supreme Court this week to challenge a Bombay High Court order that halted the identification of Scheduled Tribe population figures, which affects political reservation ahead of the 2027 assembly polls. The High Court had restrained the Census Commissioner from notifying ST estimates until after the 2026 Census. A Goa delegation, including Assembly Speaker Ganesh Gaonkar, will file a Special Leave Petition to lift the stay.
