A global assessment by the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) reveals that nearly all coral reef ecosystems worldwide, including India's four major reefs, are at risk of collapse. Of 127 ecosystems studied, 122 are critically endangered or losing hard corals. Pollution from agriculture, industry, and domestic sources, along with ocean acidification from emissions, threaten these reefs that support 25% of marine fish and protect coastal communities.
