Gaia Mission Reveals Starquakes and Milky Way’s Chemical Map
The European Space Agency's Gaia mission released its third dataset covering nearly 1.8 billion stars in the Milky Way. It revealed starquakes—earthquake-like movements on stars' surfaces—and produced the largest chemical map of the galaxy, detailing stars' age, mass, composition, color, temperature, and metal content. The data also uncovered new insights about binary stars, quasars, asteroids, and exoplanets.
