Gadi Eisenkot, former Israeli military chief and leader of the Yashar party, is challenging Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu after Israel's recent election ended without a clear majority. Exit polls showed Netanyahu's right-wing bloc winning 50-52 seats, opposition 49-53, and Arab-led parties 17-18 in the 120-seat Knesset. Turnout was 77.7%, the highest since 1999. Eisenkot sees this as a loss of confidence in Netanyahu and aims to form a new government.
