Fuel Surcharges Narrow Fare Gap Between Indian and Foreign Airlines
Following a rise in aviation turbine fuel prices, Indian domestic airlines have imposed fuel surcharges, significantly narrowing the fare gap with foreign full-service carriers on many international routes. On popular West Asian routes, the difference between Indian budget and foreign full-service airline fares is now around ₹1,000–2,000. This small difference is leading passengers to prefer foreign airlines, which offer better services and benefits. For example, Kochi to Dubai fares on Indian budget airlines range from ₹23,549 to ₹38,108, while Etihad Airways offers fares starting at ₹28,207 for the same route and date.
