FSSAI Issues Notices to BigBasket, Flipkart, Gemini Edibles Over Misleading Claims

The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has issued notices to Hyderabad-based Gemini Edibles and Fats India Limited, BigBasket, and Flipkart for misleading advertisements related to rice bran oil. The notices address false claims such as reducing bad cholesterol and maintaining or increasing good cholesterol, and the presence of '10,000+ ppm natural origanol.' These claims violate the Advertising and Claims Regulations, 2018. Gemini Edibles lacked a valid central license for e-commerce food sales. The companies have been asked to explain why action should not be taken under the FSS Act, 2006.
