French unrest eases after curfews and security measures
French protests over the weekend, sparked by cost-of-living concerns, turned violent with vandalism and looting. Authorities imposed targeted curfews, including an 11 p.m. curfew in parts of Paris, and restrictions in other cities. Prime Minister Sébastien Lecornu praised these measures for restoring calm. The unrest, occurring amid political tension before the presidential election, involved over half a million protesters and surprised officials with its scale.
