Former UoH Vice-Chancellor Palle Rama Rao Dies at 89

Palle Rama Rao, former Vice-Chancellor of the University of Hyderabad (1999-2002) and distinguished metallurgist, passed away in Hyderabad on October 3 at age 89. He was a Padma Vibhushan awardee and served as secretary of the Department of Science & Technology, chair of the Atomic Energy Regulatory Board, and director of the Defence Metallurgical Research Laboratory. He held advanced degrees in physics and metallurgy and contributed significantly to Indian scientific institutions.
