Former DMK Minister E.V. Velu and his son E.V. Kumaran have filed anticipatory bail petitions in the Madras High Court. They face allegations of excavating over 4.5 million cubic feet of sand from Malappambadi lake in Tiruvannamalai district to prepare a venue for a DMK youth wing conference held in December 2025. The court granted time for prosecution objections and advised no coercive action against Velu, aged 76, until then.
