HealthFood Inspections Rise 46% in Maharashtra, Safety Concerns Remain
Since IAS officer Tukaram Mundhe became Maharashtra's Food Commissioner on May 25, he launched a major enforcement drive starting with the milk supply chain. Food inspections in India rose 46% over two years, with 5,20,566 inspections in 2025-26. Of 2,23,808 samples tested, 18% were non-conforming. Despite increased inspections, safety concerns persist ahead of the festive season.
