ScienceFinland Begins Final Digging for Nuclear Waste Disposal Facility
Finland has started the final digging at Onkalo, the world's first geological disposal facility (GDF) for nuclear waste, located 400 meters underground. After 45 years of planning, drilling through ancient bedrock took just ten hours. The site will store 6,500 tonnes of hazardous nuclear waste safely for over 100,000 years. This project aligns with growing global interest in nuclear power as a carbon-free energy source.
