The government has banned oil marketing companies from buying ethanol made from sugarcane juice, syrup, and B-heavy molasses, shifting ethanol production towards grains like maize. Bharat Petroleum Corp. Ltd has invited bids for 11 billion litres of ethanol for the 2026-27 supply year. This shift is expected to intensify competition for maize among ethanol producers, poultry, dairy, and starch industries, driving up maize prices.
