BusinessEnergy Transition Speed Advantage Overlooked by Cost Models
Power technologies are traditionally compared based on electricity costs, but this approach misses the speed advantage of energy transition. Electricity demand is rapidly growing due to data centers, electrification, factories, and cooling. The International Energy Agency projects global data-center electricity use to more than double to 945 TWh by 2030, exceeding Japan's current consumption. Power plants cheap in 2035 cannot meet demand arriving as early as 2028, highlighting the need to consider timing in energy planning.
