Encroachments, mainly shop extensions and temporary structures, were demolished at the British-era Netaji Wholesale Market in Vellore by the Vellore Corporation. Traders were given prior notices to remove illegal structures before officials acted on Thursday. The 1.5-acre market, with 736 shops including 282 retail outlets, aims to provide easier access for visitors, especially during the festival season, according to Assistant Engineer S. Venkatesan.
