The Election Commission of India has reversed its controversial decision by separating the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) declaration from the online Form 6 used for new voter registrations. This change applies even in states currently undergoing the SIR process. Previously, applicants had to select one of three options related to their or their ancestors' presence in past SIR voter lists, making submission impossible without answering. Critics argued this created unnecessary barriers for new voters.
