ECI Denies RTI Request on Electoral Roll Software Citing Trade Secrets

The Election Commission of India (ECI) refused to disclose details about its electoral roll software, ECINet, under an RTI filed by activist M A Mujeeb Ayyub. The ECI cited Section 8(1)(d) of the RTI Act, protecting commercial confidence and trade secrets, to deny the information. It also stated no new software was developed for the Special Intensive Revision exercise and invoked exemptions to protect safety and confidentiality under Section 8(1)(g).
