HealthDrug Firms Fined ₹10,029 Crore; 84% Penalty Uncollected
The National Pharmaceutical Pricing Authority (NPPA) fined drug companies ₹10,029 crore by March 31 for overcharging patients, but only ₹1,582.4 crore has been recovered, leaving 84% unpaid. Uttar Pradesh and Karnataka reported the highest cases of overpricing at 67% and 52%, respectively. Major firms like Cipla, Johnson & Johnson, Ranbaxy, GlaxoSmithKline, and Sun Pharma face significant penalties. The government also capped cancer drug trade margins to reduce prices by up to 70%.
