ScienceDormant Kamchatka Volcano Erupts After 500 Years, NISAR Captures Video
The Krasheninnikov volcano on Russia's Kamchatka Peninsula erupted suddenly after nearly 500 years of dormancy. NASA and ISRO's joint satellite NISAR captured a rare time-lapse video of the event from about 750 kilometers above Earth. The eruption began following a powerful 8.8 magnitude earthquake in July 2025. NISAR's radar recorded 17 images of the spreading lava through dense clouds.
