On Deepavali morning, New Delhi experienced a toxic haze with the Air Quality Index (AQI) reaching 383, close to the 'severe' category threshold of 401. Out of 54 monitoring stations, 24 recorded 'severe' air quality, including Jahangirpuri at 450 and RK Puram at 448. The Supreme Court called vehicle and construction bans 'old, tried, failed tools,' while authorities said measures like GRAP are not complete failures.
