Delhi experienced its most polluted Diwali eve in a decade, with an air quality index (AQI) of 369 at 4pm on Saturday, the highest since 2016. Factors included increased farm fires in Punjab and Haryana, calm winds after sunset, and early firecracker use. PM2.5 levels peaked at 295 micrograms per cubic metre, with 36 of 59 monitoring stations in the severe pollution range. Light winds are expected on Diwali night, potentially worsening air quality.
