Delhi May Extend Special Law Protecting Illegal Constructions

Delhi authorities are preparing to recommend a three-year extension of the Delhi Laws (Special Provisions) Act, which protects illegal constructions in unauthorized colonies built before June 2014. The act is set to expire in December 2026. Despite multiple building collapses in unplanned settlements, only 136 applications for property regularisation under the PM-JAY scheme have been submitted, with 22 approved so far.
