Cyclones and Weather Bans Cause Financial Crisis for Andhra Pradesh Fisherfolk
Coastal Andhra Pradesh's fishing community faces a severe financial crisis due to multiple cyclones and frequent fishing bans by the India Meteorological Department. Since June, four major weather alerts have led to cumulative losses exceeding ₹36 crore. Cyclone Arnab alone caused nearly ₹20 crore in trade losses with a six-day ban. Thousands of families relying on mechanised trawlers and boats in Visakhapatnam Urban district are severely affected, with over 60% of the fleet remaining inactive due to adverse weather.
