In Maharashtra, cricket bookies have started opening mule accounts in rural banks to evade cyber fraud monitoring on large private bank transactions in cities. They withdraw money from these accounts and send it to their handlers. Vasai Crime Branch arrested nine people last week for betting-related offenses. Senior Inspector Nitin Patil revealed bookies pay up to 30% commission to handlers in Dubai via hawala. Bookies use villagers' documents to buy SIM cards and open accounts, then use WhatsApp on these SIMs to coordinate.
