Credit Card Spending Falls 5.9% to Rs 2 Lakh Crore in September 2026
Credit card spending in India declined 5.9% year-on-year to about Rs 2 lakh crore in September 2026, marking the first annual drop since February 2021. The decline was due to the festive season shifting to October and a high base effect. Spending in August and September combined was nearly flat, down 0.4%. Growth slowed in the first half of FY27, with public and private sector banks seeing declines, while foreign and small finance banks saw growth.
