Cow Manure Found to Have Most Antibiotic-Resistant Bacteria
Virinchi R. Madireddy, an eighth grader from Ripon, California, tested cow, chicken, fish, and bat manure for antibiotic-resistant bacteria. His research revealed that cow manure contains the highest variety of these bacteria. This finding highlights a public health concern as antibiotic resistance, fueled by livestock antibiotic use, can spread through manure used as fertilizer, impacting gardeners, farmers, and consumers of fresh produce.
