PoliticsCongress Claims Electoral Roll Shrinkage Due to SIR Process
Congress general secretary Jairam Ramesh accused the Centre and Election Commission of causing a mass disenfranchisement of Indian voters through the Shah Instigated Removal (SIR) process. He cited analysis showing the electorate size dropped from about 95 crore before SIR to 81.8 crore, reverting to 2015 levels. Over 13 crore voters were deleted during the draft-roll stage of SIR across 31 states and UTs.
