Coal India’s subsidiaries Mahanadi Coalfields (MCL) and South Eastern Coalfields (SECL) have experienced a sharp decline in average e-auction premiums over the past two financial years. MCL's premium fell nearly 66% from ₹802 per tonne in FY24 to ₹274 per tonne in FY26, reducing incremental revenue from ₹1,833 crore to ₹728 crore. These subsidiaries sell coal via fuel supply agreements and competitive e-auctions, with e-auction prices driven by demand-supply dynamics.
