Vikram Dev Datt, Secretary of the Coal Ministry, stated that coal gasification projects could save India around ₹1.5 lakh crore in foreign exchange over the next five to seven years through import substitution. The government has committed ₹46,000 crore in financial incentives under two schemes to promote these projects. Coal gasification converts coal into synthetic gas, enabling production of various imported products domestically, boosting industrial diversification, regional development, and employment.
