Climate Change Alters Northern and Southern India Over 70 Years

A study analyzing weather data from 1951–1980 and 1991–2020 reveals significant climate changes in India over 70 years. Northern India has become warmer and drier, with dry zones expanding eastward in Uttar Pradesh. About 7% of the land has turned more arid. Conversely, southern India has seen increased humidity and rainfall, with semi-arid areas shrinking from 30% to 16%. The findings were published in the India Meteorological Department's journal.

World's First Spinal Cord Transplant Performed in Russia

A joint Chinese-Russian medical team performed the world's first spinal cord transplant on a paralysed patient in Moscow. The 12-hour surgery replaced a damaged spinal cord section with tissue from a brain-dead donor using microsurgery and polyethylene glycol to fuse cell membranes. The patient had been paralysed for three years. The operation took place at the Sklifosovsky Research Institute for Emergency Medicine.
