PoliticsChina Viewed More Positively Than US in Latin America: Poll
A 2026 Latinobarometro survey shows China’s influence in Latin America is now viewed more positively than the United States for the first time since 1995. Based on nearly 19,200 interviews across 17 countries, 65% of respondents had a positive view of China, up from 48% in 2020, while 57% viewed US influence positively, down from 60%. Only Costa Rica and the Dominican Republic favored the US. The shift reflects Latin America’s closer ties with global powers and China’s access to cheaper imports.
