ScienceChina's 20-Year Native Tree Planting Restores 19-30% Rainforest Diversity
In 2003, researchers from Xishuangbanna Tropical Botanical Garden in China planted native tree patches along a degraded 12-kilometer riverside using applied nucleation. A 2026 study analyzing data through 2023 found these patches now hold 19% to 30% of the tree diversity and biomass compared to nearby intact rainforest. The study monitored natural forest expansion and the role of fig trees in recovery over 20 years.
