Centre's Fiscal Deficit Reaches 41.9% of Annual Target by August

The central government's fiscal deficit reached Rs 7.1 lakh crore, or 41.9% of the full-year target, by the end of August, according to the Controller General of Accounts (CGA). This compares to 38.1% of the Budget Estimates in the same period last year. Net tax revenue was Rs 8.38 lakh crore, 29.2% of the year's target. Total expenditure was Rs 20.78 lakh crore, 38.9% of the budgeted amount. The fiscal deficit target for 2026-27 is Rs 16.96 lakh crore, or 4.3% of GDP.
