Centre orders strict ban on reuse of single-use medical devices

The Centre has directed states and Union Territories to strictly enforce a ban on reusing single-use medical devices and disposable surgical items in both public and private healthcare facilities. The Directorate General of Health Services highlighted risks of infection and patient safety concerns, noting some hospitals were sterilizing and reusing devices meant for one-time use, especially in critical specialties like cardiology and neurosurgery.
