Centre Notifies New CAFE Norms Tightening Fuel Efficiency for Passenger Vehicles

The Indian government has notified new Corporate Average Fuel Economy (CAFE-3) norms for passenger vehicles, effective from April 1, 2027, to March 31, 2032. These norms cover cars, SUVs, and MPVs with up to eight passengers. Fuel consumption targets will tighten from 3.996 litres/100 km in 2027–28 to 3.3273 litres/100 km by 2031–32, improving efficiency by about 16.7%. The rules apply to new vehicles manufactured or imported for sale in India.
