The Indian government has directed oil marketing companies to stop procuring ethanol made from sugarcane juice, sugar syrup, and B-heavy molasses for the 2026-27 supply year starting November. This move aims to preserve domestic sugar supplies amid price pressures and weather risks. However, ethanol from C-heavy molasses, a by-product without recoverable sugar, remains allowed, as per Bharat Petroleum's tender.
