Centre extends Defence Secretary Rajesh Kumar Singh's tenure to 2027

The Narendra Modi government has extended Union Defence Secretary Rajesh Kumar Singh's tenure by one year, until October 31, 2027. Singh, a 1989-batch IAS officer from Kerala cadre, received this unprecedented extension for promoting 'Aatmanirbhar Bharat' in defence and pushing reforms in DRDO. He became the 40th Defence Secretary on November 1, 2024, and also holds additional charge as DRDO chairman since May 31, 2025.
