Centre Deploys 250 RAF Personnel to Arunachal After Hydropower Protests
The Centre has sent two Rapid Action Force companies, about 250 CRPF personnel, to Arunachal Pradesh after violent protests against the 11,200-MW Siang Upper Multipurpose Project. Protesters torched an NHPC office and police station in Pasighat, injuring over 40 police personnel. Indigenous tribes oppose the project fearing displacement and village submergence. The project counters China's mega dam strategically.
