Gold prices have fallen 30% from their January peak, yet central banks and official institutions increased gold reserves by 321 tonnes in Q3, a 42% rise year-on-year and the highest quarterly total since Q4 2024. Year-to-date purchases rose 6% to 675 tonnes, driven by portfolio diversification and risk management amid geopolitical tensions, inflation fears, and a stronger dollar. Physically backed gold ETFs saw inflows in Q3, reversing Q2 trends, though total gold demand declined 1% year-on-year to 1,369 tonnes.
