CDSCO Warns Against Misuse of Painkillers and Antibiotics

The Central Drugs Standard Control Organisation (CDSCO) issued a warning on September 21 against the indiscriminate, repeated, or prolonged use of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) and antibiotics. It linked improper use to avoidable kidney complications and chronic kidney disease (CKD). The circular reminded doctors, pharmacists, hospitals, and the public that these drugs require prescriptions under existing regulations, with NSAIDs under Schedule H and antibiotics under Schedule H1 of the Drugs Rules, 1945.
