HealthPhoto: The HinduCCMB Identifies Rare Gene Mutations Causing Inherited Heart Disease
Scientists at CSIR-Centre for Cellular and Molecular Biology (CCMB), with Osmania University and AIG Hospitals, discovered two rare genetic mutations linked to Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy (HCM), an inherited heart disease causing heart failure and sudden death. HCM affects the heart's muscle protein beta-myosin heavy chain, encoded by the MYH7 gene. Heart disease is a leading cause of death globally and a major health issue in India, especially for ages 35-64.
