California to Restore 2,800 Acres of Wetlands and Rice Fields
California is launching a $28 million restoration project on the 2,800-acre Webb Tract to combat land subsidence. The project will convert the area into wetlands and upland habitat alongside rice cultivation. It aims to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and enhance carbon storage. Native species like Bay Miwok evening primrose will be planted starting October 7, 2026.
